When I went to Exmouth in 2006, Pete, our suffering tour guide, said it had been a nuclear target when the US base was there. I asked, ‘If they dropped a nuclear bomb on Exmouth, how would anyone notice?’
I take my words back. When I was there in August, I loved lots about it.
Exmouth is located on the east side of a cape, so it’s one of the few places in Western Australia where you can see the sun rise over the ocean.
I don’t think I’d ever seen a proper sunrise. There were always clouds in the way.
