The mansion you didn’t want to visit

Tourists don’t go to Ituzaingó. It’s too far into suburban Buenos Aires.

Run down commuter trains stop at the run down station …

… but it has a shopping street with a nice bookstore …

… leading to a community park.

But on the other side of the railway line are the remains of Mansión Seré …

… where the military government in the late seventies and early eighties tortured people.

Carlos Alberto Durán was from Luján, a town a little out from Buenos Aires that’s best known for its basilica.

In 1976, seven or eight military men took him from his house. He was twenty-nine and never seen again.
